Stephen King’s The Dark Tower Finally Moving Forward?

The journey The Dark Tower series has endured going from page to screen is the Hollywood definition of on-again-off-again. Only Roland and his Ka Tet have suffered more uncertainty. Once again the project’s legs seem to be moving.

Names like Ron Howard and Javier Bardem have headlined past efforts as plans for several films turned into a TV series then films and a TV series. Currently housed with Sony and MRC the wheel turns again with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo co-writer – the original, not the David Fincher remake – next up to direct/rewrite the title’s resurrection. Reported by Deadline, Oscar nominated filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel hasn’t singed just yet, but is about to talk details with the studio.

A self-professed fan of the books, Arcel’s experience with dark material counts as a plus while his inexperience on projects of this scale may become his biggest obstacle. While many may feel this is a series long overdue for adaptation, I don’t think technology was up to the task of telling this story when it first started down this path. Now it might just get done right.

About The Author

Michael Pellegrini

Michael is a classic example of a child trapped in an adult's body - and I use the word "adult" very, very loosely. With interests ranging from comic books and movies to theater and fine art, Mike has followed humble journalistic beginnings that have led to interviews, reviews, news write-ups and opinion - though it's ever changing - pieces covering those same interests. All of that brings us here, to a site where a community of like-minded geeks can inform the rest of the world on the topics we adore. And on the personal side of things, Michael squeezes time for his lovely wife and house full of dogs between all the comic reading and video game playing.
